I don’t know how many of you heard about the shooting here in the US. 17 people died including a coach who used his body as a shield for students.
I don’t know how many of you know that I am a certified teacher and am working with at-risk students on their reading and math.
Now, the government is thinking of arming the teachers. With guns.
I don’t agree with this movement because:
– They barely want to give us decent classrooms.
– They barely want to give us enough school supplies.
– They barely want to give us enough actual teaching time, not just teaching to the test.
– They barely respect this profession.
– I was denied index cards because “I can buy them on my own”
– Even as a tutor, the majority of my check goes to buying supplies and whatnot for m students.
They want to arm us, I say arm us with more counselors. Arm us with more resources readily available for students. Arm us with the emotional and mental coaching necessary to respond to at-risk students. We don’t need guns, we need a better school system. One that doesn’t fail our students. One teacher can do so much, but imagine a school that works together as a team and provides us with the necessary resources for the students in our classroom.
You wanna give me a glock, but can’t give me index cards. Okay.
