From this point on, I simply refuse to download anything behind an ad.fly wall. If you don’t at least provide a clean link next to the ad.fly one for people to choose from, then I’m sorry, but I automatically think that you don’t care about the people you’re supposedly making custom content for. It’s a shame, because some of my favourite CC is hidden behind paywalls, but I’m not risking the hell I am going through ever again.
Long story short: my computer got infected not only by a adware program, but also a BitCoin miner, which is using up to 80% of my CPU, which is something I can’t afford with an already dying laptop. The adware doesn’t let me to anything, if I do so much as to click anywhere on a website, it brings up numerous pop-ups, and tries to download shady files. This means, for example, I can’t even log in to Tumblr, because if I click the login button, a opup will appear instead of directing me to the dashboard, and the login screen will open in another tab. Rinse and repeat. So practically, it renders my browser completely unusable.
It also means that I’m going to spend one of my two precious days off with cleaning my computer, instead of actually doing something I love (Malwarebytes identified more than 400 threats, and most of those are new, as I reinstalled Windows just a month ago, and didn’t have any problems until now). Not to mention the stress and anxiety it puts me under, because I never know if I’ve got a more harmful virus which would kill my -like I said, already dying- laptop, as I wouldn’t be able to afford to take it to a repair shop. Besides, imagine telling the guys there that I just wanted to download a nice skirt for my Sims game…
I do have various extensions that are supposed to skip through ad.fly, and the adBlock extension as well, but clearly, they don’t work well enough. I shouldn’t be forced to download additional software be able to dwnload your content “risk-free”, anyway.
So, no, thank you. I advise you all not to risk anything on a piece of custom content behind a paywall; and I kindly ask CC creators to consider at least sharing their links with a pay wall as an option rather than a demand.
